Tjørnuvík Artist Residency
The old school in Tjørnuvík is a haven for creation and concentration

Beyond the ordinary
The residence is situated in the scenic, yet isolated village of Tjørnuvík, on the northernmost part of the main island of Streymoy, about one hour´s drive from the capital, Tórshavn.
In Tjørnuvík there is a perfect environment to retreat from everyday life and immerse yourselves in your work. The residency is only suitable for an artist or artist group of twi at a time.
There are no shops, bars etc. in the village, but in summertime there usually are pop-up restaurants/cafe´s in the village. There are bus services to the neighboring villages and a shopping area, but ideally one should bring/rent a car. The village is remote.

A village school for rent
The retreat is available to local and international artists, that are looking for a place to focus on any aspect of their pursuits. Anyone is welcome to apply for residence, however, given that LISA is managing the residence, professional artists who are members of one of LISA´s affiliates will be given preference. Priority will also be given to artists who have not stayed at the residence before.
The rent is DKK 700 per week. A deposit of DKK 2.000 is required and will be refunded on return of the residence in the same condition.

Space for reflection
There are two floors at the artist residence. The ground floor has a studio (classroom, 26 m2) as well as a bathroom and bedroom. Upstairs you will find the kitchen and a sitting room. See photos below.
There is free WiFi and the rent includes bedlinen and towels, that will be changes once a week.
There are two annual application rounds:

"As an instructor, I felt right at home. The house felt very cozy, and the big room had a great positive atmosphere. I imagined how it was when school children attended classes here and there is still a blackboard, maps, and schoolbooks."
Boris Schaarschmidt
A view to your future
The building was used as a school up until 2005. In 2014 the Sunda municipality decided to break new ground in improving conditions for artists, and an agreement was signed with LISA / The Council of Faroese Artists. Since then, LISA´s executive committee has managed the applications rounds, reviewed all the applications and decided who is granted a stay at the residence.
