LISA was founded in 1982.
It is LISA’s aim to represent Faroese artists in Scandinavian and international contexts. For example, LISA is a member of Nordisk Kunstnerråd (the Nordic Artists’ Council) and of the European Council of Artists.
LISA’s highest authority is the members’ council, to which each member group elects two representatives at each group’s annual general meeeting. A committee of three members, elected at the LISA council’s annual general meeting, comprises the council’s executive board and is responsible for daily management.
LISA is in close touch with all the cultural institutions in the country. One of LISA’s major tasks is providing information and advice on matters concerning artists, including legislation.
LISA nominates two members to the committee of The Faroese Culture Foundation and four members to the committee which nominates artists to receive the annual prize awarded by the Ministry of Culture.
In 2000 LISA received support from the Ministry of Culture to employ a part-time secretary to deal with day-to-day business.
